When I Feel Forgotten

Page 1

────────── ✦ ──────────

Heavenly Father,

I come before You
with a heart that is tired
from feeling unimportant.

You know the pain
behind the words
I cannot always say.

You know how many times
I have wondered
whether I cross someone's mind
when they wake up
in the morning.

You know how it feels
to wonder whether
I am truly considered family,

or whether I have slowly
become an obligation.

Lord,
I am tired of feeling
like I am at the bottom
of someone's To-Do List.

I am burned out
from waiting,

from hoping,

from understanding,

from making excuses
for the silence,

and from trying not to ask
for something
that should come naturally.

I can't beg anymore.

So Father,
I place this relationship
into Your hands.

If I have become
an inconvenience,
give me the strength
not to hold on
out of fear.

If the calls have become
an obligation,
help me release
the expectation.

If I am holding on
because I am afraid
of being forgotten,
remind me
that You have never
forgotten me.

And Lord,
as painful as it is,

I want to set them free.

Not because I do not care.

Not because the relationship
does not matter.

But because I cannot
force someone's heart
to make room for me.

Take away the pressure
I have placed upon myself
to remain important
in someone else's life.

Help me love
without begging.

Help me care
without losing myself.

Help me release
without becoming bitter.

And when I think about
the future—

when work begins,

when new friendships appear,

when new people
capture their attention,

and I begin asking,

“Where will I be?”

Father, remind me
that wherever life takes them,

You still know where I am.

When I feel forgotten,
remind me that I am remembered.

When I feel unwanted,
remind me that I am loved.

When I feel displaced,
remind me that I have
a place with You.

And if this season
is teaching me
to stop searching
for my worth
in someone else's attention,

then give me the courage
to learn the lesson.

I surrender
the unanswered questions.

I surrender
the fear of being replaced.

I surrender
the pain of feeling
unimportant.

And most of all,
I surrender
the question,

“Where will I be?”

Because wherever
I may stand
in another person's life,

I pray that I will always
remember where I stand
with You.

Amen.
