My Best Friend

The journey of life
has a way of taking unexpected turns.
When I reflect on my life—
my dreams and my goals—
I realize I have experienced
almost everything that once mattered to me.

I was not the best in school,
but my chapter was rewritten.
I found my way into hospitality—
a field I truly enjoyed and loved.

I was never one to have many girlfriends,
though I had many female friends
who were genuine and true.
Sometimes there were feelings,
sometimes admiration—
but romance was never the destination.
Friendship was.
And many of those friendships
remain to this day.

My intimate relationships were few.
I was never the type to sleep around.
I respected women.
I valued their feelings.
I have always disdained men
who chase conquest
for selfish satisfaction.

Before marriage,
my longest relationship lasted two years.
The others were shorter—
six months or so.
Most ended because
I was searching
for something deeper.
Only one ended by her choice.

I was young.
Adventurous.
Ambitious.
Always ready
for the next challenge.

Then you came along—
and that is when my real story began.

You opened a door of no return for me.
Into my life walked
a beautiful, intelligent, graceful woman,
and I was captivated.

I fell in love with you.
And that love grew stronger
with time.

Everything I had hoped for—
every dream I carried—
I began to see in you.

Your beauty was not only outward.
It radiated from within,
lighting every room you entered,
touching every life around you—
man or woman,
adult or child.

You became
my best friend,
my partner,
my confidant,
my lover,
my wife—
my world.

It is painful
to watch our story unfold this way.
No life is perfect.
No relationship flawless.
But what matters
is who you choose
to walk through the struggles with.

Watching the love, you once had for me
slowly fade
has been one of the hardest things
I have endured.

We built a life together.
We brought two children into this world—
living symbols of our love.

Now I live one day at a time.
That is not easy for me.
I am a planner.
A driver for my family.
Ready to lead us
into whatever comes next.

But in this season,
I wait.

I cannot plan with certainty.
I cannot move with confidence.
I stand still,
waiting to see
what you will decide.

No matter what you choose,
know this—
you were,
and in many ways still are,
my best friend.

Even if one day
I must step away
for my own healing,
the place you hold in my heart
cannot be replaced.

This has been
the toughest season of my life.
I am learning
to rekindle my faith in God—
to seek strength,
courage,
and hope
for the road ahead.

My love and my heart
have always been yours.
