Inches from Disaster

Page 1

The road stretched quietly ahead,
An ordinary journey,
An ordinary day—
Until danger suddenly appeared
And stole the comfort away.

A vehicle rushed from the side,
Determined to take its place,
Caring little for the lives
Caught within its race.

A turn, a brake,
A heart that froze—
A utility pole
That came too close.

Just inches stood
Between safety and pain,
Between a normal drive
And a life forever changed.

The reckless driver
Sped away,
Leaving another
To face the day

With trembling hands
And questions inside:
What could have happened
On that short drive?

But somewhere between
The danger and fear,
Another Presence
Had been near.

A hand unseen,
A moment slowed,
Protection standing
Beside the road.

How many times
Have we never known
The dangers God
Has kept us from?

A delayed departure,
A road we missed,
A change of mind,
A moment dismissed.

What we call chance,
What we call fate,
May have been mercy
Arriving before too late.

We cannot see
The hand that guides,
But sometimes grace
Is realized

In the tragedy
That did not come,
In the journey safely
Brought back home.

So when the road
Lies wide ahead,
Let worship rise
And fear be shed.

Talk with the One
Who knows the way,
Whose unseen presence
Walks each day.

And if one day
The road grows dark
And answers seem
Beyond your heart,

Trust that the God
Who knows the plan
Still holds your life
Within His hand.

For sometimes the proof
Of love and grace
Is found in what
We almost faced.
