When burdens gathered in my soul,
And clouds refused to part,
God wrote His gentle answer
Across the canvas of my heart.
Not with thunder,
Nor with fire,
But with a bird
That chose to fly
Between the dangers
Reaching high.
Through rushing wheels
And roaring sound,
It danced where fear
Could have been found.
Then upward soared
With steady grace,
To find upon a waiting post
Its quiet resting place.
Above, the wires held others still,
While ships embraced the sea.
Creation sang a silent hymn
Only faith could truly see.
The hand that formed
The mountain's height,
Still guides each wing
In morning light.
The mind that taught
Man's hands to build,
Made roads and bridges,
Ships that sailed,
And every gift
His Spirit filled.

Yet life reminds
With solemn breath,
That every path
Can lead through death.
Still hope remains,
For God is near,
Beyond our joy,
Beyond our fear.
His greatness reaches
Sky and sea,
From smallest bird
To you and me.
So when my spirit
Loses sight,
I'll lift my eyes
Beyond my pain,
For every wing
That rides the wind
Declares my God
Forever reigns.
