Devil Cop

(A Moment of Devil Disguised)

Oh no, nooo…
Yeah…
Those were the words that escaped my lips
when the devil cop appeared ahead.

The city moved around me
with all its noise and pressure,
and I was already carrying
a hard day on my shoulders.

Funds were low,
stress was high,
yet there he stood ahead,
parked and hidden by the roadside
until he stepped out
claiming I was speeding
when I knew I was not.

Oh no, nooo…
Yeah…
That’s the sound my spirit made
when trouble arrived disguised in uniform.

“License and registration,” he said.
His voice carried authority,
but my silence carried prayer.
Inside myself I whispered,
“Lord help me.
Do not allow this moment
to break my thunder.”

He returned with paper in hand,
a ticket dressed as judgment,
then spoke of a discount
like hardship was a bargain
to be negotiated.

My thoughts wandered deep:
Why does pain arrive
pretending to offer mercy?
Why do some storms smile
while placing burdens in your hand?

Oh no, nooo…
Yeah…
Those words echoed again
when the devil cop appeared ahead.

But somewhere beyond frustration,
beyond anger and confusion,
the Lord stood quietly beside me
reminding me
that no man,
no ticket,
no dark encounter
can steal the strength
God planted in my soul.

So I drove on,
not defeated,
not broken,
just reminded
that even on difficult roads
grace still rides with me.

And with the Lord in my presence,
the devil may appear before me,
but he will never
break my thunder.
