Hold Me Through the Ordeal

Father,
I come before You without pretending
that everything is all right.
You see the loneliness I carry.
You see the emptiness that sometimes follows me.
You see the financial burdens,
the disappointments,
and the darkness that can enter my mind.
You even see me when I cannot bear
to look at myself.
Lord, forgive me for the moments
when pain makes me feel abandoned by You.
Remind me that You have never left me.
When I remember the suffering of others,
I am humbled by their strength.
Teach me to hold on to You
as my friend held on to You
during her darkest ordeal.
And when I look to the cross,
remind me of Jesus—
who suffered,
who endured,
and who remained faithful.
Lord, I may not understand this season.
I may not understand why my heart
feels so lonely at times
or why my burdens seem so heavy.

But today,
I choose not to let my ordeal
pull me away from You.
Draw me closer.
Give me peace when my circumstances
cannot give me peace.
Give me strength when I feel weak.
Give me hope when darkness
tries to convince me
that there is none.
And when I finally look into the mirror,
help me see more than my pain.
Help me see someone
You are still holding,
still shaping,
and still carrying.
I place my ordeal in Your hands.
Not because I understand it,
but because I trust You through it.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
